Uni vs Greenview: Can we run it back?

Aakash Vasireddy | Blog Post #5 | Non-Fiction Writing | December 7th, 2021 There are countless new experiences that we take for granted throughout our lives - experiences that pass without any second thought. From coming to Uni as a Subbie in 2017 and walking into the building for the first time, to attending my last Howdy Hop with my friends in the greenspace we call Uni Quad, I have gained so many memorable moments throughout high school. I’ve been on the ground laughing hysterically from interactions with friends, but I’ve also stressed in the library, furiously typing out my college essays - I’ve experienced it all. However, if I had to pick one experience that I would like to relive for the first time, I would choose the most intense basketball game I had ever played in during sophomore year: a conference match against Greenview High School. Well into the season at the moment, I’m constantly reminded while watching through all our old game film of all the great memories I had...

Where would I go: Can I choose more than one?

Aakash Vasireddy | Blog Post #4 | Non-Fiction Writing | October 11th, 2021 If I had to go anywhere, where would I go? A quite difficult question to ask someone who has not only felt trapped in their own home, fantasizing of the amazing places around the world to visit while the world quarantined, but has also been surrounded by cornfields for almost all of their life. There are so many fabulous places around the world worthy of a visit. Within the United States alone, from the bustling streets of downtown Manhattan and the Empire State Building of New York City to the towering mountains and intricate landscapes of Yellowstone National Park, countless places have piqued my interest, and so many more have yet to catch my attention. However, if I had to choose one place to travel to in the world, I would choose Tokyo, Japan. If given the option to travel anywhere, visiting somewhere nationally seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity. I don’t think this is a “unique” answer by any me...

Hats On, Hats Off

Aakash Vasireddy | Blog Post #3 | Non-Fiction Writing | October 21st, 2021 Society places a high importance on the clothes we wear. From the cheapest t-shirt to the most expensive jackets and coats; from the shoes we showcase on our feet to the pieces of jewelry that glimmer brightly in the sunlight - we care about our clothes. Choosing an outfit to class or to work can be the most stressful part during a morning routine. However, the process could also be the most fun part about a morning routine, or, perhaps, even the most boring part of a morning routine. One important aspect to note, though, is that the outfits we wear in the outside world typically express something about us - our personality, our class, our interests, and more. We make choices about what we want to use to represent ourselves. For me, among all my articles of clothing, my hats have been one of the most noticeable things about me since I have started wearing them. I didn’t always wear hats (obviously), but the...

Aakash vs Akash & Teachers

Aakash Vasireddy | Blog Post #2 | Non-Fiction Writing | September 30th, 2021 Names. A word, or words in some cases, given to each of us by our parents upon arrival into this world. A word as we grow older that we learn to associate with ourselves, our hands adjusting to the movement of the pattern of letters our pens and pencils make to denote possession. A word we use to refer to ourselves in discussions with peers, friends, and those who surround us, first, last, and middle (or lack thereof) combining to form differences between each of society’s individuals. It portrays power: the impact your name creates as it is announced on the microphone or at the front of the class, resonating to all the people that hear it. It portrays identity: the things, items, personalities, emotions, characteristics, memories, that pop into one another’s minds as the name is mentioned, a crystal clear image. It gives… understanding and meaning - an understanding and meaning of the stories that make u...

A Wild Trip to Wisconsin ft. friends

Aakash Vasireddy | Blog Post #1 | Non Fiction Writing | September 9th, 2021 After a week of spending time at a lake house eight hours away with five close friends who make our collective combination of brain cells just over three, I can say that, at the very least, Wisconsin was... interesting . Plentiful highs to complement the lowest of lows, and, of course, all the moments that make up the in-between. Now, naturally I could say, “It was fun, etc. etc.,” and, don’t get me wrong, the experience was tons of fun, but the term interesting not only suits the trip more appropriately, but also generates more… excitement.  A couple weeks before we took on the exciting but also daunting prospects of our last year at Uni, a few of my closest friends - Ian, Ivan, Elias, Andy, and Ekam - and I took a week-long trip to Andy’s lake house which became filled with funny moments even before we arrived at the house. Pontooning, riding jet skis, watching movies together - these were all things pro...
